Male and Female
The Scriptures don’t mention the words sex change, but it does speak about God’s original design for men and women. In Genesis 1:27-28, we read, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply…” And to this plan, the Lord said that it was very good (Genesis 1:31).
God clearly specified the differences in sex, male and female. The duality of sex finds its expression in the institution of holy wedlock. The Lord declared that “marriage is honorable” (Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 7:2). Marriage makes the husband and wife “one flesh” and their sexual relationships pure (Genesis 2:24). Between a husband and a wife, sex is a blessing and a beautiful expression of love, caring and unity.
While gender differences matter, males and females have equal status before God as sinners in need of salvation. The apostle Paul wrote, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:26-29).
Homosexual Actions
Homosexual activity is against God’s will. As a result of the sinners’ decision to reject God, He leaves them to a state of mind that is evil. The Bible says, “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due” (Romans 1:26-27 also Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Genesis 19:1-13 ).
In fact, those who practice Homosexual acts, will be excluded from the kingdom of God. “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]homosexuals, nor [b]sodomites” (1 Corinthians 6:9).
God made man, male and female, and the distinction thus ordained is to be honored and obeyed. Cross dressing is not right. This action is considered “an abomination to the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 22:5). Thus, we can see that any effort to change the gender identity of a person by any action is against the teachings of the Bible.
Sex Change
Based on what the Scriptures teach, sex change is not approved by God. A person should accept the way God created him/her. The Lord doesn’t support the notion of changing one’s gender because of emotional problems, confusion about gender identity…etc. Of course, there are rare exceptions to this as in the case of those who are born with both male and female sex organs – disorder of sexual development (DSDs). In these cases, the sex is medically determined, and surgeries are done to professionally amend the physical birth defects.
God Heals
For those who are struggling with gender identity and contemplating changing their sex due to some painful life experiences or abuse. Give God a chance to heal your life. He does care and fully understands your state of mind, struggle and confusion. He can certainly heal you by the power of His grace that you may live the good life that He has planned for you (Jeremiah 29:11). This is the miracle of new birth. The Lord promised, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26).
