Gifts From God
God gives the believers a diversity of gifts. The following texts: Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Ephesians 4:10-12, teach about God’s will regarding His spiritual gifts. Romans 12:3-8, lists the spiritual gifts as follows: prophecy, serving others (in a general sense), teaching, exhorting, generosity, leadership, and showing mercy. 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 lists gifts as the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, the working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues (ability to speak in a world language that is not previously known to the believer), and interpretation of tongues. And Ephesians 4:10-12, speaks of God giving to His church the following offices: apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastor-teachers.
To help find out what are God’s gifts for you, prayerfully consider the following steps:
1-Listen to the impressions of the Holy Spirit revealing God’s gift for you as you study His Word (1 Kings 19:11-13).
2-Watch the abilities you possess that come naturally to you. The Master “delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability” (Matthew 25:14-30).
3-Try out your abilities or gifts by volunteering in some simple capacity. “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might” (Ecclesiastes 9:10).
4-Test your gifts by actually taking an active role in some advanced post. “All who are gifted artisans among you shall come and make all that the Lord has commanded” (Exodus 35:10).
5-Get the confirmation and witness of other godly Christians on your performance. “Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise …” (Proverbs 19:20,21).
After carefully going through these steps, the Lord will reveal what your gifts are so that you may best serve Him. “‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and [a]mighty things, which you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).
