The Ascended Masters
According to New Age theology, the Ascended Masters are described as spiritually advanced beings who once lived as ordinary humans but achieved a higher state of consciousness through many lifetimes. Through a series of spiritual initiations, they supposedly paid off all karmic debt and mastered the process of ascension, freeing themselves from reincarnation and the limitations of the physical world.
These beings are said to possess great wisdom and power, existing on higher planes of consciousness and guiding humanity toward enlightenment. Followers believe that they communicate with certain individuals, revealing new spiritual truths to help people evolve toward divine unity.
The Roots of the Ascended Masters Concept
The idea of the Ascended Masters originates in the teachings of Theosophy, a movement founded in the 19th century by Helena P. Blavatsky. Theosophy introduced the concept of Mahatmas or Masters of Ancient Wisdom-immortal beings who guide the spiritual evolution of humanity.
Later writers such as Alice A. Bailey and Benjamin Creme built upon Blavatsky’s ideas. They claimed that these Masters dictated spiritual messages to them, revealing divine knowledge about human destiny and cosmic law. Through their writings, names like Master Morya, Master Kuthumi, and the Lord Maitreya became central figures in New Age belief.
In Benjamin Creme’s version of New Age theology, Maitreya is considered the world teacher who will appear to lead humanity into a new spiritual age. He is portrayed as the embodiment of love and wisdom, destined to bring global peace and unity under a single world faith.
The Hidden Dangers Behind the Ascended Masters
While these teachings present the Ascended Masters as enlightened and benevolent, the Bible gives a very different perspective. The Apostle Paul warned that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). What may appear to be sources of wisdom or illumination can, in reality, be demonic deceptions designed to lead people away from God.
The so-called Ascended Masters fit this biblical warning. They claim divine authority, promise enlightenment without repentance, and deny the uniqueness of Jesus Christ as Savior. Their teachings encourage self-deification-the belief that humans can become gods through spiritual evolution.
According to Scripture, this is the same lie that the serpent told Eve in the Garden of Eden when he said, “You will be like God” (Genesis 3:5). Behind the appealing language of ascension and awakening lies the same rebellion that began in heaven with Lucifer’s fall.
The Connection Between the Ascended Masters and the Antichrist
The Bible clearly teaches that before the return of Christ, there will arise a global religious and political power led by the Antichrist. This figure will oppose God, deceive the nations, and demand worship. Revelation 13 describes him as a beast who receives authority from the dragon, symbolizing Satan.
In Revelation 13:8, we read, “All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb.” Verse 15 continues, “As many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.”
New Age theology also predicts a world leader who will appear during times of crisis. This figure, Maitreya, is described as a teacher of universal wisdom who will unite all religions under one belief system. Followers believe that the Ascended Masters will assist him in establishing this New World Religion.
From a biblical standpoint, the parallels are striking. The Maitreya of New Age prophecy and the Antichrist of Scripture share many characteristics: both claim global authority, both unite diverse faiths, and both demand spiritual allegiance.
The Role of the Ascended Masters in End-Time Deception
If the Ascended Masters are in fact fallen angels, their purpose becomes clear. They serve to prepare humanity for the arrival of the Antichrist by promoting a counterfeit spirituality that blends all religions. Their message focuses on unity, tolerance, and enlightenment, but omits repentance, sin, and salvation through Christ.
This deception aligns perfectly with biblical prophecy. Jesus warned that in the last days, false prophets and false christs would arise to deceive many, even the elect if possible (Matthew 24:24). The Ascended Masters fit this pattern. They appear spiritual but deny the core truths of the gospel.
Their influence can already be seen in global movements that promote spiritual unity apart from biblical truth. Concepts like “Christ consciousness,” “cosmic energy,” and “universal love” sound appealing but lead people away from the one true God revealed in Scripture.
The Antichrist in Prophecy
The prophet Daniel and the apostle John provide detailed descriptions of the Antichrist. When these prophecies are compared, many Bible students identify the papal system as fulfilling the characteristics of this power. Below are key points drawn from Daniel chapters 7 and 8 and Revelation 13.
1. A Small Kingdom Arising in Western Europe
Daniel 7:8 speaks of a little horn arising among ten others, representing the kingdoms of Western Europe. The papacy developed from within this same territory.
2. Ruled by One Man
The little horn has “a mouth speaking great things,” showing a human leader representing the system. The papacy fits this through its visible head, the pope.
3. Uprooting Three Kingdoms
The rise of papal power involved the removal of three opposing kingdoms-the Heruli, Vandals, and Ostrogoths-by Catholic emperors who supported the church.
4. Different from the Other Powers
Daniel 7:24 notes that this kingdom would be different, combining religious authority with political power.
5. Persecuting the Saints
Daniel 7:25 and Revelation 13:7 describe persecution against God’s faithful people. History records the death of millions during centuries of church-state rule.
6. Speaking Great Words Against God
Both Daniel 7:25 and Revelation 13:5 speak of blasphemous claims. These include asserting authority to forgive sins, change God’s commandments, and act in the place of Christ on earth.
7. Changing Times and Laws
Daniel 7:25 also says this power would think to change times and laws. The shift from Sabbath observance to Sunday worship and alteration of the Ten Commandments in catechisms are often cited as fulfillments.
8. Ruling for 1,260 Prophetic Years
Daniel’s time, times, and half a time equals 1,260 prophetic days or 1,260 literal years. This period matches the historical dominance of papal authority from 538 to 1798, ending when the pope was taken captive by Napoleon’s general.
9. Receiving a Deadly Wound That Heals
Revelation 13:3 says the beast’s deadly wound would be healed, showing renewed influence in the last days.
10. Identified by the Number 666
Revelation 13:18 invites readers to count the number of the beast’s name, which is 666. One of the papal titles, “Vicarius Filii Dei,” adds up to this number in Latin numerals.
Together, these prophecies identify this system as the Papacy, which claims divine authority, changes God’s law, and unites political and spiritual power. In the end times, this same system is prophesied to align with false spiritual forces-the so-called Ascended Masters-to form a global religion that opposes God’s truth.
How to Stay Spiritually Safe
The Bible gives believers clear protection against spiritual deception.
1. Test Every Spirit by Scripture
Isaiah 8:20 says, “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Every teaching must agree with the Bible.
2. Focus on Christ Alone
John 14:6 reminds us that Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life.” No spiritual master or teacher can take His place.
3. Watch and Pray
Jesus warned His followers to stay alert and pray that they not be deceived. A life rooted in prayer and Scripture keeps the believer grounded in truth.
4. Avoid Occult Practices
Deuteronomy 18 forbids contact with mediums, spirits, and hidden knowledge. Practices promoted by New Age teachings open doors to deception.
Conclusion
The New Age doctrine of the Ascended Masters may appear enlightened and uplifting, but Scripture reveals it as part of a vast spiritual deception. These beings are not ascended guides but fallen angels preparing the world for the Antichrist and the final rebellion against God.
Believers must test every spiritual claim by Scripture and hold fast to the truth of the gospel. Jesus Christ alone offers true enlightenment and eternal life. He is not one master among many, but the one and only Savior of the world.
