Is it true that only 144,000 will go to heaven or are we misinterpreting that only that group will serve as a select few to reign as Kings and priests and others will still be able to go there?

The Bible does not teach that only 144,000 people will be saved or enter heaven.

The 144,000 are mentioned in Revelation 7 and Revelation 14. They are described as a special group who are sealed by God and who follow the Lamb faithfully. But Revelation 7 immediately goes on to describe “a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues” standing before God’s throne (Revelation 7:9). That alone shows that the redeemed are far more numerous than 144,000.

The main question is what the 144,000 represent. Some Christians take the number literally and understand them as a distinct end-time group. Others understand the number symbolically, representing the complete people of God. Revelation frequently uses symbolic numbers and imagery, so both views have been argued.

As for reigning as kings and priests, Revelation does say that the redeemed will reign with Christ. Revelation 5:9–10 says Christ has redeemed people “out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” and made them “kings and priests.” Revelation 20:6 also says those in the first resurrection “shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him.”

So Scripture does not restrict the role of kings and priests only to the 144,000.

The safer conclusion is this: the 144,000 are a specially identified group of faithful believers in Revelation, but they are not the only people who will be saved. The Bible pictures an innumerable multitude of redeemed people with God, and all who belong to Christ share in His kingdom.
