I absolutely believe in God our Father in Heaven, but struggle to read the Bible and understand it. If I am not reading Gods word everyday, then how can I be a Christian?

Struggling to read or understand the Bible every day does not mean you are not a Christian.

A Christian is someone who trusts in Jesus Christ, has received His grace, and seeks to follow Him. Salvation is not earned by maintaining a perfect daily Bible-reading record. “For by grace are ye saved through faith... not of works” (Ephesians 2:8–9).

At the same time, God’s Word is very important for spiritual growth. Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Scripture helps us know God’s character, understand His will, resist temptation, and grow in faith.

If reading the Bible feels difficult, start small. You might read a few verses from one of the Gospels each day, especially John, and ask God to help you understand what you are reading. Psalm 119:18 gives a helpful prayer: “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.”

You can also use a reliable Bible study guide, listen to an audio Bible, or read a simpler translation alongside the one you normally use. The goal is not to complete a certain number of chapters, but to know God better.

There may be days when you read a lot and days when you read very little. What matters is continuing to come back to God rather than turning Bible reading into a test of whether you are truly saved.

Your desire to understand God’s Word is itself something worth nurturing. Keep asking Him for wisdom, because He promises to give wisdom to those who ask (James 1:5).
