According to the Scriptures, God manifests His Glory in several ways:
First: Cloud
- God in heaven is shrouded with the cloud of glory. “I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him” (Daniel 7:13).
- The cloud of God’s glory was present in the tabernacle. As God’s children lifted their voices in praises to God in thankful remembrance of His wonderful mercies to them, He drew near and a cloud filled the tabernacle where they sang, “so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God” (2 Chronicles 5:13, 14 also Exodus 40:34,35; 1 Kings 8:11; 2 Chronicles 7:1; Ezekiel 10:4).
- The cloud of God’s glory was present in the wilderness. There, the glory of God known as the “Shekinah,” appeared as recorded in Exodus 16:10; 40:34. God led the Israelites in the wilderness through a pillar of cloud (Exodus 13:21; 14:24; Isaiah 4:6), for even when shining in the dark it is still called “the pillar of the cloud” (verse 19) or “the cloud” (Numbers 9:21). By day it was seen as a dark cloud, and by night as a bright light (Numbers 9:15, 16). The cloud stood for divine leadership and protection.
- The cloud of God’s glory will be seen at the Second Coming of Christ. Christ’s return will be “with clouds” (Matthew 24:30; 26:64; Revelation 1:7; Mark 13:26; 1 Thessalonians 4:17; Luke 21:27; Mark 14:62; Acts 1:11). Vast companies of angels will accompany the Lord when He appears in glory (Matthew 25:31).
Second: Fire
“’For I,’ declares the LORD, ‘will be a wall of fire around her, and I will be the glory in her midst'” (Zechariah 2:5 also 2 Samuel 22:8-16). In a similar manner, the Lord revealed Himself to Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3:2).
Third: Thunder
“The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders, The LORD is over many waters” (Psalm 29:3 also Exodus 19:16,18).
Fourth: Shaking of earth
“Then the earth shook and quaked, the foundations of heaven were trembling and were shaken, because He was angry…He bowed the heavens also, and came down With thick darkness under His feet” (2 Samuel 22:8-16 also Psalm 18:7-15).
Fifth: Still Small Voice
“Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a]a still small voice” (1 Kings 19:11-12).
