A person may begin seeking Christ without fully understanding or accepting every Christian doctrine, but the virgin birth is an important biblical truth about who Jesus is.
Matthew 1:18–25 and Luke 1:26–35 clearly teach that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. This matters because Jesus was not merely another human teacher. He is the Son of God who truly became man.
Salvation itself is received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by passing a theology exam (Ephesians 2:8–9). A new believer may still have questions, doubts, or incomplete understanding. God is patient with people as they grow.
However, there is a difference between struggling to understand the virgin birth and deliberately rejecting what Scripture clearly teaches about Christ. If someone says, “I believe in Jesus, but I refuse to accept the biblical testimony about who He is,” that eventually becomes a serious issue because Christian faith rests on the Jesus revealed in Scripture.
So I would say: yes, someone can begin following Christ while still wrestling with the virgin birth. But as they grow in faith, they should be willing to accept the Bible’s teaching that Jesus was born of a virgin through the miraculous work of the Holy Spirit.
