A modern believer may choose to wear dreadlocks, but the Bible does not require dreadlocks as a sign of a Nazarite vow.

In Numbers 6, a Nazarite vow involved three main things: abstaining from wine and grape products, avoiding contact with the dead, and not cutting the hair during the period of the vow. The uncut hair was a visible sign of dedication to God.

However, the Bible does not say that Nazarites wore dreadlocks specifically. It simply says that the hair was not to be cut. How that hair looked would depend on the person and culture.

For Christians today, there is also no New Testament command requiring believers to take the Old Testament Nazarite vow. A person may choose a period of special dedication to God, but it should not be treated as something necessary for salvation or spiritual status.

So if someone wants to wear dreadlocks as a personal reminder of consecration to God, there is nothing inherently sinful about that. But it would be better not to claim that dreadlocks themselves are the biblical sign of a Nazarite vow.

What matters most is the heart behind the dedication. God is more concerned with obedience, holiness, humility, and faithfulness than with a particular hairstyle.
