The Benefits of Being Sexually Pure

The benefits of being pure sexually are many. Here are a few:

1-Having a happy fulfilled relationship with the spouse. Those who live according to God’s standards of morality have stable marital relationships. Restraining oneself sexually before marriage leads to a loving sexual relationship with one’s lawful spouse that is based on trust (Ephesians 5:25-33). The faithful are not the ones experiencing the debilitating effects of an ungodly, permissive sexual lifestyle that leads to broken families.

2-Leaving a good example to the children who thrive on the happiness of their parents. A happy home is the best environment for the harmonious development of the physical, the emotional and the social well being of the children. “In all things showing yourself a pattern of good works” (Titus 2:7).

3-Receciving God’s approval. The Christian life is a walk as Jesus walked. The disciple of Christ is instructed to “deny himself” the sinful pleasures (Matthew 16:24) and “imitate” Jesus, the sinless One (1 Peter 2:21-22; 1 Corinthians 11:1). Faithfulness leads to a stronger relationship with God.

4-Having inner peace with no guilt. Following purity rules can involve self-denial, self-control, and self-discipline. Restricted good moral habits will lead to one becoming at peace with himself and with others. “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You” (Isaiah 26:3).

5-Mainaining physical health. The sexually immoral suffer from various disorders caused by their licentious behavior. According to the American Center for Disease Control (CDC), more than 65 million people (or 22 % of the U.S. population) live with one or more incurable sexually transmitted diseases (“Tracking the Hidden Epidemics 2000” – 2004). Those who refuse to abide by God’s laws pertaining to sexual relations risk becoming one of these infected ones. “My son, attend to my words. … For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh” (Proverbs 4:20-22).

It is clear that God’s way concerning sexual freedom is the happiest way. Unfortunately the Western history of the Last decades has proved that unrestrained sexual freedoms (pre-marital, extra-marital, and homosexual sex) have only resulted in moral decay and breaking of the family. “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).
