That is a very understandable question, especially when your marriage is one of the closest relationships in your life.
Jesus taught that in the resurrection people “neither marry, nor are given in marriage” (Matthew 22:30). So the marriage relationship, as an earthly covenant, will not continue in exactly the same form in heaven.
But that does not mean you and your wife will become strangers to one another or lose the love and history you shared. Scripture gives us good reason to believe that we will still know one another as distinct individuals. The disciples recognized the risen Jesus, and Moses and Elijah were recognizable at the transfiguration (Matthew 17:1–4; John 20:16).
So your wife would still be your wife in the sense that she is the same person you loved and shared your life with, but your relationship would no longer be defined by earthly marriage, exclusivity, or marital roles. Instead, both of you would belong to the larger redeemed family of God in a perfect relationship with Christ and with one another.
The beautiful part is that nothing good will be lost. Whatever was pure, loving, loyal, and meaningful in your marriage will not be erased. It will be perfected in a world without jealousy, loneliness, misunderstanding, sickness, or death.
Revelation 21:4 says that God will wipe away every tear and that “there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.”
So while we may not know every detail of how relationships will feel in heaven, we can trust that they will be deeper, purer, and more joyful than anything we experience now.
