1. I say “if there’s no promise of marriage in my early 30s. How can I hope to be married? And how can I wait without a promise?” 2. Is God pleased that I write a journal about all I want to experience in marriage?

1. It can be hard to wait when God has not given a specific promise that you will marry. The Bible gives many promises about God’s presence, care, wisdom, and faithfulness, but it does not promise marriage to every believer.

That means Christian hope cannot rest on “God has promised me a spouse.” Instead, it can rest on “God knows my desires, He is good, and I can trust Him with my future.” Psalm 37:4–5 encourages us to bring our desires to God and commit our way to Him. Philippians 4:6–7 also teaches us to bring our requests openly to God.

So you can absolutely hope for marriage. Hope is not the same thing as certainty. You can pray, prepare, meet people, pursue relationships wisely, and still leave the outcome with God. Waiting does not have to mean doing nothing; it can mean living fully while remaining open to what God may provide.

2. Yes, I see nothing wrong with writing a journal about what you hope to experience in marriage. It can actually be a healthy way to understand your desires and bring them before God.

You might write about companionship, affection, shared faith, raising a family, everyday life together, emotional intimacy, or even the kind of spouse you hope to become. The key is to hold those desires with an open hand rather than turning the journal into a prediction of what God must give you.

A helpful prayer behind the journal could be: “Lord, these are the things I desire. Help me understand which desires are good, prepare me for marriage if that is Your will, and help me trust You with the things I cannot control.”

God is not displeased simply because you deeply want marriage. Scripture treats marriage as something good (Genesis 2:18; Proverbs 18:22). The important thing is that the desire for marriage does not become more important than your relationship with God or convince you that your life cannot be meaningful until you are married.
