Will the Mark of the Beast be a tattoo?

A Tattoo

Some Bible prophecy teachers teach that the Mark of the Beast will be a literal tattoo in the hand or the forehead. But according to the Bible, a tattoo is not the Mark of the Beast. Tattoos were forbidden by the Lord (Leviticus 19:28).

Concerning attaching messages to the forehead, Moses talked in symbolic terms, “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes” (Deuteronomy 6:6-8).

Clearly, the Lord didn’t mean that His people will literally attach His words to their foreheads and wear them in their cloths. Sadly, the Jews later took these words literally, wearing phylacteries upon the head and the inside of the left arm (Exodus 13:9).

A Spiritual Symbol

The Bible teaches that the Mark of the Beast is simply a spiritual symbol which means that someone has made a choice to turn from God and His law and follow the beast. Symbolically, the hand represents actions and the forehead represents the mind.  The book of Revelation writes that at the end of time people will be marked symbolically.

“And another angel followed, saying, “Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb” (Revelation 14:8,10).

Who Is the “Beast”?

Revelation 13:1-8,16-18 gives eleven points that identify the Beast.
