Freedom From the Power of Sin
The Lord promised us freedom from the power of sin. God will supply all the grace necessary to live a victorious life. The plan of redemption provides for more than the forgiveness of past sins. It also provides a way of escape from continued life in sin.
The Lord gave us infinite promises for victory. Instead of saying we may be saved, the Bible says we can be saved to the uttermost (Hebrews 7:25). Instead of saying we may conquer, it assures that we can be more than conquerors (Romans 8:37). Instead of being told that we can just triumph, we are told that we may always triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14).
Instead of promising to give us whatever we might ask to help us in our spiritual battles, the Bible says He will give us exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). And the verse just prior to that one clearly guarantees that we may be filled with all the fullness of God (verse 19).
Man’s Cooperation with God
Conversion
Jesus said, “Ye must be born again” (John 3:3). This new birth is not merely a passive emotional experience, or of a mere word testimony that one has accepted Jesus as his Savior. The new birth is a dynamic change in the entire life; it is a transformation by the miracle of divine grace, by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in a fully surrendered heart. Our prayer should be that of David, “Create in me a clean heart, 0 God; and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10).
Flee From Temptation
“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed” (James 1:14). Enticement or temptation is Satan’s part in leading man into sin.
Daily Study of the Word of God and Prayer
The mind that is strengthened with the promises of Scripture will triumph. Close communion with God, through prayer and the study of the Word is a must “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises (in the Scriptures): that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4).
Resist the Devil
The will is the governing power of man. When the will is submitted to the will of God, then the divine presence sets up a resistance against the powers of the evil one.”Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Victory comes through submission and resistance.
Praise
The Christian can experience full victory (Philippians 4:13). And He will be able to declare, “I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3:18). All will be well because of the faithfulness of his God (Psalms 13:5, 6; 31:19, 20; Micah 7:7)
