Why should people read the Bible today?

People read the Bible today because it answers life’s most important questions. These questions are:

Where Did I Come From?

God created us in His image (Genesis 1:26,27). We did not accidentally emerge as nondescript globs from some primeval slime. We are sons and daughters of God, the Mighty King (Galatians 3:26). We are so precious to God that when Adam and Eve sinned, He gave His Son to die and pay the penalty for our sins so we could be free. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). And He wants to restore us to His image and then, shortly, take us back to Eden, the home Adam and Eve lost.

Why Am I Here?

Our goal in life today should be to discover the Bible’s wonderful answers to life’s puzzling problems and to accept Jesus’ offer to restore us to His image (Romans 8:29). Life is a chance given by God to get to know Him and prepare for eternal life (John 17:3).

What Does the Future Hold For Me?

There is no guessing about the future. The Bible contains 25% prophecies. Most of these prophecies were fulfilled exactly as they were given. The rest remains to unfold as we get closer towards the end. The Bible tells us that Jesus will come very soon to take His people to the fabulous home He has prepared for them and end the sin problem. There, with supreme joy, people will live forever. “And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away (Revelation 21:3, 4).

The Bible – the Road Map to Heaven

The Bible is the information and operations manual for a human life. If we ignore it, we will miss the right way to eternal happiness and life. “Thy word is a . . . light unto my path” (Psalms 119:105). The Word of God lights the way so that men may walk safely in the spiritual darkness of this evil world. He who has this light to guide him need not stumble even though his path is beset with evil (2 Peter 1:19)

Jesus gave us in His Word the secrets for a happy and fulfilled life. “These things have I spoken unto you . . . that your joy might be full” (John 15:11). God’s word offers the hope of eternity “I will come again, and receive you unto myself that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:3).

The Bible remains a best-seller, in constant demand. Its message is God-given that stood firm through the ages. According to Guinness Book of records, “the Bible is the world’s best-selling and most widely distributed book. A survey by the Bible Society concluded that around 2.5 billion copies were printed between 1815 and 1975, but more recent estimates put the number at more than 5 billion… the whole Bible had been translated into 349 languages.”

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16,17).
