When and where is hell going to take place?

Hell … When and Where

Contrary to popular belief, there is no one in hell today. According to the Scripture, “The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of Judgement” (2 Peter 2:9). Here, the unjust are “reserved” for a future day of Judgment. And the day of judgement does not happen at death but is at a future time.

Jesus explains when the sinners will be cast finally into hellfire, “As the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. The Son of man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire, there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:40-42). This will take place after the resurrection of the dead (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17) and the final Judgment.

Another fallacy is that the fire of hell originates from the center of earth. Yet, the Bible teaches that, “fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them (wicked)” (Revelation 20:9). Sin and sinners will be” devoured” or destroyed by God’s fire. To the wicked, ”God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:29). The result of the final judgment is that the wicked  “shall be ashes under the soles of your(saints) feet” (Malachi 4:3). The Scripture also adds, “If the righteous will be recompensed on the earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner” (Proverbs 11:31).

From these verses, we learn that there currently is no place where the dead have been cast into fire to be killed. All the dead are asleep in their graves awaiting the resurrection of life or the resurrection of damnation (John 5:29). Not until the final judgement will the wicked be cast into a lake of fire (Revelation 20:14).

Eternal Hell- Unbliblical Teaching

Just because the majority believe in the eternal hell doctrine that doesn’t make it right. Jesus affirms this truth saying, “strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:14). The Bible is clear that hell will not be forever. For the Bible proof, check the following link: Is Hell Forever.

The “eternal hell of torment” doctrine didn’t originate from the Bible. Unfortunately, some of the Protestant churches today have adopted it from the Catholic Church which tried to control the masses through fear during the dark ages and still holds this belief today. And while a fear of hell might get people’s attention, the Bible teaches that the believers are not saved by fear but by God’s grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8,9).

God – Not a Torturer

The problem with the eternal hell theory is not just that it is un-biblical but that it is a slander on the very nature of God who is love (1 John 4:8). The work of destroying the wicked in hellfire is so foreign to God’s nature that the Bible calls it His “unusual act” or “strange act” (Isaiah 28:21). God is not an unjust God who will punish people throughout eternity because of a single life of sin that lasted about 70 years (Isaiah 61:8).

Even evil humans would not wish or do that to their own rebellious kids. Civil laws don’t even allow extended torture for the worst of criminals. Yet, we dare ascribe these inhumane actions to our Loving and just God. This is a blasphemy against Him. The devil who is the originator of this theory is attributing to God his very own thoughts towards men (1 Peter 5:8). And by accepting these ideas, we share the devil’s thinking (John 8:44).

God Loves His Children to Death

The Bible declares, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). There is no greater love than this (John 15:13). The truth is that God’s loving heart will be pained by the destruction of the wicked (Ezekiel 33:11). For He diligently works to save every soul (John 3:16; Luke 9:56). But if one persistently rejects His love, God will have no choice but to respect his wishes and end his life when He purifies the universe of the terrible disease of sin by the fires of hell (Romans 6:23).
