The question that came from that is, what is the meaning of life?
Speaker 1
Life?
Speaker 2
That’s probably our comment.
Speaker 1
Thank you, Andrew, for making sure that was the question.
Speaker 2
Good grabber there.
Speaker 1
All right. Well, to answer that, biblically speaking, Jay, I’m sorry, do you want to go first?
Speaker 2
I don’t know where to go with it.
Speaker 1
Okay. Well, I’ll give you a Bible verse since we’re Bible asked, if you go to the book of Ecclesiastes, I’d say in Ecclesiastes twelve right at the end of the book, if you know anything about King Solomon, he was a very interesting fellow. He was the wisest man that ever lived. And he did some amazing things as King. I mean, people came from around the world to just talk to him, and they were blown away by his wisdom and just how he ran the country of Israel. Sadly, he disobeyed God and he started loving strange women and loved them too many. Had about 700 wives, 300 concubines, and kind of messed up his life and kind of messed up the nation because of it. Now he wrote a couple of books. He wrote the Book of Proverbs, which is all this wisdom, I think, more from his earlier years, not quite sure. But he writes a book called Ecclesiastes where he’s just basically he’s lived out his life and he’s like everything’s vanity, everything’s meaningless. He tried to live for his pleasure. He tried to live for this world. He tried, you know, to just eat all he wanted to eat, have as many wives as he wanted to have, go all these places, do all these things.
Speaker 1
And he says in the last two verses of Ecclesiastes, chapter twelve, verses 13 and 14, he says, let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter. So if I was going to sum up what life is about, he says, this is it. Fear God and keep his Commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. And verse 14 goes on to say, for God shall bring every work into judgment with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil. So kind of just keeping the end in mind, we’re going to have a judgment one day. We’re going to come before God, and God’s going to say, what did you do with the time that I gave you, the time, the opportunities to know me, the gift of Salvation that I offered you through my son? What did you do with that? And Solomon, his answer to life’s question, what’s the meaning of life? The thing is, it’s just to fear God, give honor God, think about acknowledge him. Just that word, respect, means to acknowledge someone or something. You acknowledge God in your day to day life and keep his Commandments, obey what he says, because that’s all God is asking of you.
Speaker 1
He’s not asking you to do more than that. He’s just asking you to do that. Unlike Eve, who said either the fruit, we can’t even touch it or else we die. God never said that. She added to God’s word. And I think when we add to more than what God’s saying for us to do, that’s where we get in kind of some trouble there. So just acknowledging God, obeying his word, that’s your whole duty. And God’s going to bring in everything into judgment, whether it’s secret or good or bad. So just keeping the end in mind, I’d rather have good on my record. I’d rather have Jesus blood blotting out all my sin, ensuring my Salvation in that way. I’m sorry, Wendy, do you have any other thoughts?
Speaker 2
First, I totally agree. Ecclesiastes twelve was my first thought of where to go. And it’s interesting how he says, speaking of Solomon, fear God to keep his Commandments. And the next thing is, okay, well, what was Jesus’s parting words and his instruction for people? And he says in Matthew 20 819, GOE, therefore teach all nations. So teach people, baptize them in the name of the Father and Son in the Holy Spirit, and then teach them to observe all things whatsoever. I have commanded you. So going back to keeping God’s law. But my favorite thing that God commanded is John 1334. And Jesus says, and a new commandment I’ve given unto you that you love one another as I have loved you. So to me, we’re getting back to love. Love is at the core. Why did God create us to love us, but so that we can also love love God and we should be loving each other.
Powerful.
Speaker 2
Yeah. And Jesus has even prayed that prayer I had earlier in John where he says, Lord, I want my disciples to be one just like Jesus and the Father are one. He wants us to experience oneness in everything we do, going back to husband and wife. Why did God make Adam and an Eve? Because he wanted them to experience oneness. This unity, just as God gets experienced oneness in unity. And so it’s not just oneness between male and female, as husband and wife, but also then as fellow believers, as brothers and sisters, all created by God, raised by God. God wants us all to be like one in love. Love is the one thing that makes that possible. Without love, that unity, that oneness just falls apart. Anything. But love creates distance between people, breaks relationships. And so it’s at the core of everything.
Speaker 3
Yeah. And I do think that is the meaning of life is to love.
Speaker 2
To love people and to be loved.
Speaker 3
Yes. We can’t love until we receive love. So if we reject the love that’s given to us, we’re not going to be able to love on others.
Speaker 2
We love Him because he first loved us.
Speaker 3
Right. So we have to accept his love into our life and then love others with that same love that he has loved us.
Speaker 2
Well, that was a great question. I hope we answered that. For all of you guys. Thanks for asking it.
Speaker 3
Yes. You.
