Is asking, does anyone know the name of the Shunamite woman?

Speaker 2

Yup. Yup.

Speaker 3

I’ll say Jay, I think, you know.

I’m not sure if the questioner is asking the right question, but so as far as the Bible, there is one Shonamite who is named and that person is Abby Shag. And we could find her name in first kings one, verses three to four. And it reads, and this is during the time of David when he was actually close to his death, and they needed to find a woman who could sort of warm him in bed. And so they found her. She’s extremely beautiful. And this is what we’re told First Kings one, verses three to four. So they sought for a lovely woman throughout all the territory of Israel and found Abby Shag, the Schunamite, and brought her to the king. The young woman was very lovely and she cared for the king and served him, but the king did not know her. So she shows up later on again, where then one of David’s sons then asked to marry Avashag. And then Solomon says this was a very evil thing to do, which that’ll be a question in and of itself. Why was that an evil thing? To me that would be an interesting question, but why?

Speaker 2

I think the question may have meant someone else is. In the Song of Psalm or the Song of Songs, chapter six, verse 13, it reads, the beloved and his friend’s return, return, oh shule might. Return, return, that we may look upon you. The shule might. What would you see in the Shulamite? And then talked about dancing. So this sort of suggests that maybe one of the lovers of songwe, Solomon may have been this Shulamite and different than Sunamite. And we don’t have the name of this Schulamite. But what’s interesting is some people think maybe it meant Shunamite. So maybe there’s just a slight different variation of spelling but same word. Like we might say Californian or we might say a person from California, maybe just two different ways of saying it. Or what’s also interesting is schunamite can mean or shounam. The word that it comes from is related to the same word that Solomon’s name comes from. So it could be like the female equivalent, the heroine. That’s the perfect match for Solomon. And we’re again not given this person’s name, but it also means perfect, peaceful. That’s another word for Shulamite. So very interesting.

Speaker 2

Hope that answers the question you’re looking for. And I think we’re ready to go to question number two, unless you have thoughts.

Speaker 1

No, I think that’s pretty much it. I always have thought that’s such an interesting story too about the shooter, my woman, and how I really feel like it kind of showed to me the heart of David, because before David became king, he was a man after God’s own heart. When he became king, he did make some mistakes, but yet he always came back to God after those mistakes. And I feel like at the end of his life, even though he made sexually immoral decisions at his old age, he was like, you know what? I’m not going to, like, know this woman, because he really wasn’t married to her and he respected her. And I feel like he finally overcame this sin, if that makes sense, because he was like, I’m not looking to just please myself. I want to please God. And so anyways, I don’t know. I think that’s such an awesome story within the whole thing with the shooter.

Speaker 2

Mike woman or he was just that old that week, that sick that it wasn’t him on his line.

Speaker 3

He just physically couldn’t do anything.

Speaker 2

I mean, honestly, back in that time, they didn’t realize they were sinning. Their sin was to marry and then divorce. But to have many wives, they were thinking, oh, what’s wrong with that? It’s one of those things where even people today, it’s sad when we read the Bible as saying polygamy was okay, whereas God was just saying, okay, I know you’re doing the best you did right on a lot of the big things. So I’m just going to ignore this one thing that you weren’t so much aware you were doing wrong.

Speaker 1

Yeah, and that’s true too, I think. I had a friend talk about our walk with God and he’s like, is it a neck issue or is it a toe issue? He’s like, If I have a gash on my neck, I need to dress that first before I address the gash on my toe.

Speaker 3

So I feel like that was kind.

Speaker 1

Of definitely polygamy was kind of not a good thing at all. But it’s not as life and death as do you know God? Are you putting your faith in God?

Speaker 2

Wow. I love that Nick Toe illustration. I think that really sums it up well.
