What are some witnessing tips?

Witnessing Tips

The believer who has experienced new life in Christ will be eager to witness and share the experience of God’s love and forgiveness, both verbally and in the way he lives, with others. Sharing the story of salvation is witnessing. The apostle John wrote, “That . . . which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at, and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of Life” (1 John 1:1-3). There are a number of ways a person can reach out for his friends. In God’s Word, we find the following tips that help us in witnessing to others:

A- Get close to people.

He “drew near and went with them” (Luke 24:15). Jesus left the glories of heaven to be one with mankind. He lived among people in order to draw near to them and save them.

B- Look for an opportunity to share God’s love.

“As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10). Divine wisdom is needed in order to make the most of the opportunities that present themselves. Believers should pray for understanding to know when and how to labor most effectively.

C- Be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot” (Acts 8:29). Here, we see an example of how the Spirit of God leads and gives specific directions to His children.

D- Be a good patient listener.

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” (James 1:19). Christians will be known for their eagerness to listen, constantly learn God’s Word, for their self-control in not pushing the truth on others, and for their readiness in studying with those who disagree with them.

E- Offer God’s solution for sin first.

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water” (John 4:10). The Christian should present the ultimate truth, that only God can save the soul (John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 9:15).

F- Be prepared to give an answer to your faith.

“Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15b). Sincere people are to expect Christians to be able to present the truth in an intelligent, convincing manner. In fact, believers must be ready to face the challenges of the world’s most intelligent minds.

G- Lead people to the Scriptures.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). God’s Word changes lives and gives people the power to overcome sin. In order to lead people to have enduring faith, they need to know the source of that power.

H- Make disciples for the Lord.

“Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). Christ commissioned His followers to disciple others. Faith in Christ calls the new converts for constant growth in “the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18) in order to be qualified for baptism.

I- Give all the glory to God and not to self.

“Let them give glory to the LORD and declare His praise in the coastlands” (Isaiah 42:12). God is the source of every good blessing, therefore, He alone should get all the praise for the success in witnessing.
