What are some unbiblical doctrines that crept into the church?

Some of the Unbiblical Doctrines

The popular trends of modern society are influencing today’s churches. In an effort to be politically correct, some churches have adopted wrong and unbiblical doctrines. Here are some of these popular, yet erroneous doctrines:

1-Once you say the sinner’s prayer, you’re saved and you can’t be lost.

The Bible response: “Not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21).

2-Jesus came to save us in our sins, rather than from our sins.

The Bible response: “That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:27).

3-If you have enough faith, you’ll be prosperous and financially comfortable.

The Bible response: riches are not always a sign of faith. “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked” (Revelation 3:15-17).

4-Abortion is not really killing an unborn baby; it’s simply “pregnancy termination.”

The Bible response: “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13).

5-Practicing homosexuality is not a sin; it’s simply an alternate lifestyle.

The Bible response: “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind” (1 Corinthians 6:9).

6-It’s not necessary to observe the Sabbath commandment literally as long as you are resting in Jesus.

The Bible response: “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.  Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy” (Exodus 20:8-11)

7-As long as you pray over your food, you can eat anything without hurting your body.

The Bible response: In Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14, God points out what are the clean and unclean meats to eat.

The Truth Sanctifies

Jesus said about His faithful church, “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (John 17:16–18). Christians are to be consecrated to God. Holiness is one of His attributes (1 Peter 1:16). Hence to be made holy is to become like God. The plan of salvation was made to accomplish this goal (2 Peter 1:4). The Word of God is declared to be “truth.” The Scriptures reveal to us the character of God and of Jesus Christ. We become new creatures when we apply the truths of the Word of God to our lives.
