Books
The Bible consists of 66 books, written by 44 authors over a period of about 1500 years. The 39 books of the Old Testament were written between 1400 and 400 B.C. The 27 books of the New Testament were written between A.D. 50 and A.D. 100. While it took over 1,000 years to write the Old Testament, the New Testament was written within a period of 50-75 years.
When the Bible was first written, there were no chapters or verses. Stephen Langton divided the Bible into chapters about 1228 AD. The Old Testament was divided into verses by R. Nathan in 1448 AD. And Robert Stephanus divided the New Testament into verses in 1551 AD. The first complete Bible with chapter and verse divisions was the Geneva Bible of 1560 AD.
Verses
The Old Testament consists of 23,214 verses. And the New Testament consists of 7,959 verses. Both testaments add up to 31,173 verses. The middle verse of the Bible (KJV) is Psalms 103:1,2. The Middle verse of the Old Testament is 2 Chronicles 20:17. The middle verse of the New Testament is Acts 17:17.
The shortest verse of the Old Testament is 1 Chronicles 1:25. And the shortest verse of the New Testament is “Jesus wept” in John 11:35 and also “Rejoice evermore” in 1 Thessalonians 5:16. And the longest verse in the Bible is Esther 8:9. The similar verses are: Psalm 107:8,15,21, 31.
Chapters
In the Old Testament there are 929 chapters. And in the New Testament there are 260 chapters. Both testaments add up to 1,189 chapters. The middle chapter of the Old Testament is Job 29. The middle chapter of the New Testament is Romans 13. The shortest chapter of the Bible is Psalms 117 and the longest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 119. The similar chapters are 2 Kings 19 and Isaiah 37.
Words
In the Old Testament, there are 592,439 words. And in the New Testament, there are 181,253 words. Both testaments add up to 773, 692 words. The longest word in the Bible, which consists of 18 letters, is Maher-shalal-hash-baz (Isaiah 8:1). The words that are found once in the Bible are eternity (Isaiah 57:15), grandmother (2 Timothy 1:5) and gnat (Matthew 23:24).

The first authorized Bible printed in English is the Great Bible of 1539. The full Bible has been translated into 532 languages and partially it has been translated into 2,883 languages. There are over 100 million copies of the Bible sold each year. The Bible is the best-selling book of all times, with total sales exceeding 5 billion copies.
