God’s Mercy

God has shown such great mercy in giving His Son to die for sinners, and in pardoning their rebellion. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

The ultimate expression of divine love is the Father’s gift of His own Son, through whom it becomes possible for the believers to be “called the sons of God” (1 John 3:1). This should be man’s greater motivator for obedience and for devoting himself to the Lord.

Bible Verses

“The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation” (Exodus 34:6,7).

“For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn His face from you if you return to Him” (2 Chronicles 30:9b).

“Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; according to Your mercy remember me, for Your goodness’ sake, O Lord” (Psalm 25:6-7).

“Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy” (Micah 7:18).

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy” (Matthew 5:7).

“But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance” (Matthew 9:13).

“Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful” (Luke 6:36).

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)” (Ephesians 2:4-5).

“But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:4-5).
