God’s Promises for Sexual Assault Victims
Healing from sexual assault needs time, and the restoration process can be painful. But the Lord offers promises of help, justice and hope to the victims:
“The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you” (Psalm 9:9-10).
“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God” (Isaiah 43:2-3a).
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the suffering and afflicted. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted, to announce liberty to captives, and to open the eyes of the blind. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of God’s favor to them has come, and the day of his wrath to their enemies. To all who mourn in Israel he will give: beauty for ashes; joy instead of mourning; praise instead of heaviness” (Isaiah 61: 1-3).
“The Lord also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble” (Psalm 9:9).
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
God’s Justice to the Innocent
“Do not … crush the afflicted at the gate; For the Lord will plead their case and take the life of those who rob them” (Proverbs 22:22-23).
“Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute. Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people” (Psalm 82:3-4).
“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord” (Romans 12:19).
“The Lord performs righteous deeds and judgments for all who are oppressed” (Psalm 103:6).
God’s Eternal Kingdom of Peace
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
“But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13).
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4).
