Should Christians go to nightclubs?

Christians and Nightclubs

“Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart”.

2 Timothy 2:22

Nightclubs are establishments for evening entertainment that offer worldly amusements, worldly music, worldly association and alcoholic drinks. The activities that take place there are not righteous. Therefore, Christians are to avoid going to nightclubs.

The scriptures teach that by beholding we get changed (2 Corinthians 3:18). Christians are to guard the avenues of their souls (Matthew 15:19). Therefore, it’s essential to protect the mind from watching, listening, and associating with evil (Matthew 5:22, 28). As believers, we are to stay away from temptation, remembering that “bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33).

Nightclubs are places that are full of allurements to the youth and there is no place for Christ there. The Lord gives the message to the youth: “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14).

Also, going to nightclubs where sinful activities take place weakens one’s Christian witness (Romans 2:24). “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness” (2 Timothy 2:19). When unbelievers see a Christian attending a nightclub and leading a sinful lifestyle, the cause of Christ is reproached and this will be a stumbling block to them and will hurt their chance of finding the truth (Romans 14:3).

As members of the body of Christ, we are to be a light to the world (Matthew 5:14) and testify to others of what God has done in our lives (1 Peter 2:11-12). All the activities of the Christian should glorify God. “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God“ (1 Corinthians 10:31).
