Last week the World remembered Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice for the humanity. It ends with the Easter Sunday, which is the day on which many remember the resurrection. So, this time we will try to explain how did God do the great act of coming back to life from the state of dead using a simple example from our day to day life.
As many of you may know, the timer function of a Television is used both for switching off as well as switching on the device at particular times. For example, if you need to see a program which starts 30 minutes later, you will just set the timer accordingly so that your TV will switch-on automatically at that time. Now, let me ask you a question? What happens when you activate the timer? The TV enters into a standby mode. Seems like the TV is simply dead. Let me put it like this, the TV has went to sleep.
Imagine yourself as a little child. Will that little child understand anything about what is going on inside the TV, when it is off by setting on the timer? For him/her the TV is simply dead for the next 30 minutes without any activity. But, we know that something is still active inside its memory (chip) or at least some technology is controlling it so that the television will be active just at the 30th minute. Here I don’t want to dig deep into its technical aspects, but will convey some concepts to you all.
1) Who decided to put the Television’s timer on? : its owner
Similarly, who decided to put Jesus to death? : The owner Jesus Himself.
“No man taketh it (life) from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down , and I have power to take it again..” – John 10:18.
2) What did the owner do for setting the timer? : He gave the command using his remote control.
Similarly, God had given the command to crucify Him long before, by His sure Word of prophecy.
“Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One,the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing.” – Daniel 9:25-26.
3) What happened to our TV then? : It remained idle or in a more symbolic way, it slept. Simultaneously a mysterious force was monitoring the inner workings of the television. It was giving the necessary guidance to the different functions, as what to do next.
“Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.” – John 11:11
“ Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.” – Mark 5:39
“Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren …” – Hebrews 2:17
4) What happened after that 30 minutes? :–The command to get started again was generated from the inside by some incomprehensible phenomenon and as soon as the signals captured the command the display was on.
Similarly, when the 3 days were over the prophecy got power by means of the written word and Jesus came back to life again.
“ For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.” – John 20:9
The interesting fact is that the TV knew it has to switch on within 30 minutes which will be initiated by its own inner workings, but it remained in its sleep mode till that time, without any knowledge of current running programs. So did Jesus! The mysterious nature of God’s power working through His WORD kept Jesus in perfect sleep without any conscience, while on the third day the same power which made Jesus to sleep brought Him back into life again. It was the WORD of God spoken by He Himself which made it happen. A perfect brain teaser, isn’t it?
In fact we all are like that little child before God and His mysterious acts. Though we don’t understand how it works, it is definitely true. I believe that, our finite mind will not comprehend it in our current state of human existence even if God Himself tries to explain it to us.Also, I believe that it is the reason why God is silent on many such subjects that we are eager to know.
Remember Jesus saying :-
“I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now” – John 16: 12.
So let us wait patiently for that day when the angels will explain the meaning of all these mysterious things. Yes, it will be the time when we are in heaven! May be, even the angels are finding it very difficult to comprehend!
