The Millionaire’s Dream!

It all began when he was attending a funeral in his hometown cemetery. The deceased died of a heart attack while watching the video footage of a recent earthquake in their country. So the hero of our story, a recent millionaire, had his own idea for the rest of his life, after hearing the reason for his neighbor’s death: the idea for the safest location on the planet to build a home! So he did a little research.

Here is how he began: First of all, he wanted to write off the possibility of any disasters, both natural and man-made, like earthquakes, floods, tsunami, tornado, wild fires, nuclear disaster etc. Another important matter was concerning the possibility of war, both, an international one, as well as a civil war. The chances of a financial crisis could not be written off. For such a crisis not to happen, the country must be rich and powerful. So he searched for such countries and made a list of them.

Yet one thing he forgot. What about uninvited guests, like thieves? So he decided to hire security guards. Cameras would be mounted everywhere connected to an alarm system. He also bought two guard dogs. So, what was next? Although his dream location was far away from forests, yet snakes and spiders are almost unavoidable and he had a fear of spiders. Thus he decided to have screens on all the windows and door openings, so that not even flies could come in. He also got a cat for any contingency (in case some flies manage to get in).

Now he paused for a moment and said to himself, “I am a very lucky man! I have got the money to do all of this.” He also decided to build a fire-resistant inner-bed room, which  would even resist small bombs. For he thought, what if a fire broke out in the middle of the night? Well, finally he found a perfect place which matched all these requirements, and gave the contract to a builder.

He had his dream home built in the most perfect location possible, in this world. So, satisfied with his achievements, he decided to throw a party for his friends and relatives. At the party, while everyone was praising him for his creative and logical thinking, our hero wanted to introduce his super-safe bedroom to the guests. So he invited them all to the bedroom. As he began to explain the facilities therein, suddenly, the terrified cat, that was hiding inside the room, seeing a bunch of people coming to her hideout, jumped off and ran towards the door passing quickly between his legs. Instinctively, he moved so as to avoid hurting the cat, but lost his balance, fell down, hit his head on the side of his super-flexible high-security bed with alarm features, and died instantly, even before his doctor friends there could help him. His body was finally laid in his hometown graveyard, just beside the previously-mentioned guy, who died of heart attack...

The moral of this story is very simple:

“Unless the Lord builds the house,
    the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain”

                                                                                             :  Psalm 127:1

When I hear of terrorism, natural disasters, violence and all, I feel myself insecure in this planet, and, at least for a moment, I wish I had the resources of that millionaire in our story. But, as we know, it’s all futile! We humans are helpless when disaster strikes, unexpectedly.

” The rich man’s wealth is his strong city,
And like a high wall in his own esteem “

                                                                                                                                : Proverbs 18:11.

So, what’s the alternative? Yes, indeed, the only thing we can do is to cry, and ask for help: not from men whose very plans fail, but from God, our Heavenly Father. If you are afraid in hearing the news about bombings or natural disasters, remember to pray to God, for He alone can lead us to safety. Prayer is the only weapon available for us. If we pray, God will do everything possible to see that we come out unharmed.

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
The righteous run to it and are safe…”

                                                                                                    : Proverbs 18:11.

God Bless.
