Man’s Freedom of Choice
It’s common for people to ask: why does God allow bad things to happen to good people? God created humans with the freedom of choice- freedom to do good or evil (Deuteronomy 30:19). Humans chose to listen to the devil (Genesis 3) and he became the ruler of this earth. The devil is full of hate and his pleasure is to see the destruction of the human race (John 8:44). That is why there is suffering today.
God does not tempt anyone with bad things (James 1:13). People have brought this condition of affairs upon themselves by their disobedience (Genesis 1:27, 31; 3:15–19; Ecclesiastes 7:29; Romans 6:23). And they cannot blame God for the consequences of their own sin.
God’s Plan of Salvation
But God, in His infinite love, took upon Himself the burden of saving all people from death (Matthew 1:21). He offered His only begotten Son to die and redeem humanity. All those that accept God’s plan and receive His gift of salvation through Jesus and live as He lived, will be saved eternally (John 1:12).
So, the only One that truly suffered in this story is God Himself “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16); “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).
Bad Things Are Used For the Good
God uses the bad trials of life to purify the character and cleanse it (1 Peter 4:12, 13). And the Lord “works all things together for good” for those the love Him” (Romans 8:28). Even the hardships of this life, far from hindering the believers’ salvation may help them forward. At every step, they may be in the hands of God while He is purifying them from sin. Eventually, God will destroy the devil and all his followers who have caused so much pain and suffering and will reward every person according to his deeds (Revelation 20:10).
