The Bible Persons Resurrected From the Dead
The scriptures give record to persons who were resurrected from the dead. Here are the references:
1–The widow of Zarephath’s son. Elijah raised the widow of Zarephath’s son from the dead (1 Kings 17:17–24). “O Lord my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him. Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived” (verses 21-22).
2-The Shunammite woman’s son. Elisha raised the Shunammite woman’s son from the dead (2 Kings 4:18–37). “ When Elisha came into the house, there was the child, lying dead on his bed. He … prayed to the Lord. And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm. He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up and stretched himself out on him; then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes” (verses 32-35)
3-The man raised out of Elisha’s grave. This resurrection occurred after Elisha’s death (2 Kings 13:20–21). “When the body (of the dead man) touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet” (verse 21).
4-The widow of Nain’s son. Jesus’s first recorded miracle of resurrection (Luke 7:11–17). “Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise. So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother” (verses 14-15).
5-Jairus’ daughter. Jesus raised the young daughter of a synagogue leader (Luke 8:52–56). Jesus said, “My child, get up!’ Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up” (verses 54–55).
6-Lazarus of Bethany. Jesus raised from the dead His friend Lazarus (John 11). Jesus “called in a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come out!’” (verse 43). And, “the dead man came out” (verse 44).
7-Many saints in Jerusalem. At the resurrection of Christ certain saints were resurrected (Matthew 27:50–53). At that time, “the bodies of many holy people . . . were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people” (verses 52–53).
8-Tabitha of the Apostolic Church. The Lord resurrected Tabitha a believer who lived in the coastal city of Joppa (Acts 9:36–43). Peter prayed, “turning toward the dead woman, he said, ‘Tabitha, get up.’ She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet” (verses 40–41).
9-Eutychus of the Apostolic Church. Eutychus was a young man in Troas who was resurrected by God (Acts 20:7–12). “But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, “Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.” Now when he had come up, had broken bread and eaten, and talked a long while, even till daybreak, he departed. And they brought the young man in alive, and they were not a little comforted” (verses 10-12).
10-Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. The Bible records the resurrection of Jesus Christ (Mark 16:1–8). The angel said, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen!” (verse 6).
Jesus says to all, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). Jesus here declares Himself to be the Life-giver. In Him, is life, original and underived. He who receives Him receives life (1 John 5:11, 12) and is promised of a future resurrection to eternal life (1 Corinthians 15:51–55; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; etc.).
