Addressing the harassment of demons involves understanding spiritual warfare and implementing biblical principles for protection and victory. The Bible provides guidance on how to resist demonic attacks and live victoriously in Christ. By relying on the authority of Jesus Christ, the power of prayer, the armor of God, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, believers can effectively combat spiritual harassment. Let’s explore these strategies in detail, supported by relevant references.

1. Recognizing the Reality of Spiritual Warfare:

Before addressing how to stop the harassments of devils, it’s crucial to acknowledge the reality of spiritual warfare. The Bible affirms the existence of supernatural beings, including evil angels, who seek to undermine God’s purposes and oppress humanity.

  • Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV): “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” This verse underscores the spiritual nature of the conflict believers face. Our struggle is not merely against human adversaries but against spiritual forces opposed to God and His kingdom.

2. Relying on the Authority of Jesus Christ:

The ultimate authority to overcome Satanic harassment rests in Jesus Christ. Believers can invoke the name of Jesus and exercise His authority to rebuke and cast out evil angels.

  • Mark 16:17 (NKJV): “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues.” Jesus promises His followers the authority to cast out demons in His name. By exercising faith in Christ and His finished work on the cross, believers can confront and defeat demonic oppression.
  • Luke 10:19 (NKJV): “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Here, the Lord promises the gospel messengers that, on many occasions, they will receive special protection, according to the Father’s will.
  • Mark 6:7 (NKJV): The Bible tells us that Jesus, “Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.” Jesus gave His followers power to cast out evil angels.

Jesus had authority over demons and cast them out. “When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick” (Matthew 8:16, NKJV). And He promised that His children will also do the same and even greater works. “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father” (John 14:12, NKJV).

3. Engaging in Spiritual Warfare Through Prayer:

Prayer is a powerful weapon in spiritual warfare, enabling believers to seek God’s protection, guidance, and deliverance from demonic attacks.

  • James 4:7 (NKJV): “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Submission to God and resistance to the devil go hand in hand. Through prayer, believers submit themselves to God’s authority and resist the influence of demonic forces, causing them to flee.

4. Putting on the Armor of God:

Ephesians 6:10-18 describes the spiritual armor believers are to put on to withstand the attacks of the enemy. Each piece of armor represents a spiritual truth or attribute essential for spiritual warfare.

  • Ephesians 6:14-17 (NKJV): “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” By putting on the whole armor of God, believers are equipped to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Each piece of armor represents a facet of spiritual truth and protection, enabling believers to resist demonic harassment effectively.

5. Walking in the Power of the Holy Spirit:

The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live victorious lives and provides discernment and guidance in spiritual warfare.

  • 1 John 4:4 (NKJV): “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit within believers ensures their victory over demonic forces. By relying on the Spirit’s power and guidance, believers can effectively resist and overcome demonic harassment.

6. Filling the Mind with God’s Word:

The Word of God serves as a spiritual weapon against demonic attacks, providing truth, guidance, and protection.

  • Psalm 119:11 (NKJV): “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” Memorizing and meditating on Scripture fortifies believers against the lies and deceptions of the enemy. By filling their minds and hearts with God’s Word, believers can counteract demonic harassment and remain steadfast in their faith.

7. Warning:

If a person opens the way to the demons by getting involved in sin, the occult, and other evil practices (through literature, TV, board games, witchcraft, drugs, music, internet, Eastern religions, immorality, associations…etc), he will get attacked and harassed by demons.

These harassment or attacks, can be stopped if a person repents, commands the evil spirits to leave in the Holy Name of Jesus, and closes the channels that introduced these evil spirits in the first place. The Lord promised: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Submitting means walking in God’s path and “Abstain[ing] from all appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22). As the believer yields to God and resists the devil, he will have nothing to fear (1 John 4:4).

To, maintain his victory over demonic powers, the believer needs to daily abide in the Lord through the study of the Word and prayer. Jesus promised, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you” (John 15:7).

Conclusion

In conclusion, stopping the harassment of demons requires a comprehensive approach rooted in biblical principles. By recognizing the reality of spiritual warfare, relying on the authority of Jesus Christ, engaging in prayer and spiritual warfare, putting on the armor of God, walking in the power of the Holy Spirit, filling the mind with God’s Word and closing evil avenues, believers can effectively resist and overcome demonic attacks. It’s essential to approach spiritual warfare with prayer, dependence on God, and discernment, trusting in His provision and victory over the forces of darkness.
