How can I find rest in God?

BibleAsk Team

A believer can find rest in God whey he allows Him to carry his burdens. The Bible says, “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall” (Psalm 55:22 also 1 Peter 5:7). God proved His love at the cross (John 3:16). If He did not love us, and consider us of value, then He would not have died for us (John 15:13).

Resting in God means committing the burdens of life to Him as unto a faithful Creator and Redeemer and leaving our problems at His feet trusting that He will work all things for our good (Romans 8:28).

Jesus explained how He cares for His children, “Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matt. 10:29, 30; Luke 21:18). If the Lord takes notice of the injury or death of a sparrow, how much more must the injury or death of His own children mean to Him!

A believer can’t rest in God because his mind is clouded with worry. Therefore, he should not dwell on his problems but instead dwell on the goodness and power of God (Psalm 64:1; 62:8). Dwelling on the Scriptures gives power and real peace (Galatians 5:22).

When a believer is troubled and in pain, let him show his faith in God’s love for He promised, “In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me”(Psalm 86:7 also Psalm 5:11; 9:9; 62). His words are true and He will keep that which is committed to His care. “Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock” (Isaiah 26:4).

Let the believer’s heart and mind rest in God, like a tired child in the arms of its mother. The Lord assures us, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you” (Isaiah 49;15).

The battles of life that the believer can no more fight, Jesus will fight it for him. For He says, “Give your case entirely into My hands. Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). The prophet David affirms, “For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock” (Psalm 27:5).
