Is Jesus Omnipresent?

Jesus

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ – the Divine “Word” – is God (John 1:1-3). Therefore, He partook of the essence of Deity and all the Divine characteristics including being Omnipresent before his incarnation. But the “Word” became flesh and dwelt among humans (verse 14). This means that Jesus is human in the same sense, except that He “knew no sin” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus is both God and man (Luke 1:35; Rom. 1:3; 8:3; Gal. 4:4; Phil. 2:6–8; Col. 2:9; 1 Tim. 3:16; Heb. 1:2, 8; 2:14–18; 10:5; 1 John 1:2; etc.).

Was Christ Omnipresent as a Human?

In His incarnate body, Jesus could not be Omnipresent, but after His ascension and through the Holy Spirit, He could be with each one of His followers at all times and in all places. And He affirmed that to His disciples, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you” (John 16:7). The Bible also confirms the Omnipresence of Jesus:

He Fills All Things

“The church, which is his body, the fulness of him who fills all in all” (Ephesians 1:22-23).

“He who descended is he who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things” (Ephesians 4:10).

He Is With His Church

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20).

“And lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

He Indwells Each Christian

“In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you” (John 14:20).

“Jesus answered him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him” (John 14:23).

“But if Christ is in you, although your bodies are dead because of sin, your spirits are alive because of righteousness” (Romans 8:10).

“Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?” (2 Corinthians 13:5).

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).

“(I pray) that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith” (Ephesians 3:17).

“Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).
