The good news is that God will certainly help Christians find their mates. The Lord miraculously found mates for Rebecca, Isaac and Jacob. So, trust in God in helping find a good mate.“A house and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a sensible wife is from the LORD” (Proverbs 19:14). “A man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD” (Proverbs 18:22). “Who can find a capable wife? She is far more precious than jewels” (Proverbs 31:10).
Guidelines For Seeking Life Mates:
–Physical appearances may be deceiving. “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Outward appearances do not reveal the real motives of the hearts.
-Perfect mates should be believers. “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship does righteousness have with lawlessness? And what partnership does light have with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14). So great is the difference in ideals and conduct between Christians and non-Christians, believers and unbelievers, that to enter into any binding relationship with them in marriage inevitably confronts the Christians with the alternatives of abandoning principle or enduring difficulties occasioned by differences in belief and conduct.
-Christians need to focus first and foremost on God. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you” (Matthew 6:33). Christ would have us make first things first, and assures us that things of lesser importance and value will be supplied to each according to his needs.
-Believers must have faith in the Lord. “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them” (Mark 11:24). Faith is the prerequisite of blessings.
-And finally, God is faithful to give Christians all their desires. “Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you your heart’s desires” (Psalm 37:4). If we choose and love what God loves, we shall enjoy the desires (literally “petitions”) of our hearts.
