Can demons torture a believer?

So Michelle is asking me, can demons follow a person to a certain location to torture another believer that she has been hurt by and or can demons have a believer in a prison? As Revelation 210 tells, strong Bible believing Christian was under a demonic possession and felt she could not feel any love of God. She was at her with them to leave Christians altogether.

Speaker 2

Thank you, Michelle, that is a great question. A few things are to impact, definitely. First, let’s talk about that verse you said, Revelation 210. It says, do not fear any of those which you are about to suffer. Any of those things which are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested and you will have tribulation ten days. So one of the parts of the question was, is this talking about some sort of like spiritual prison maybe, or is it talking about physical prison? I believe it’s talked about literal prison there for the most part, especially if you read Luke 21, verses twelve to 13. It says, but before all these things, this is Jesus speaking, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake, but it will turn out for you as occasion for testimony. So Jesus predicted that his people will be persecuted and part of persecution is going to be being thrown into prison. And this is exactly what we see in the New Testament.

Speaker 2

Also. For example, in two, Corinthians 1123 says, I’m frequently in prisons. And Acts 22 four, we see Paul talk about how he was throwing people into prison back when before he got converted, he was the one throwing Christians into prisons. And then just all of this fits into this larger picture of Revelation 213, verse 13, talking about this dragon or just talk about Leviathan. So this Leviathan Satan saw that he had been cast on the earth. He persecuted the woman woman representing Christ church, who gave birth to the male child. In verse seven it says that the dragon was raised with a woman and went to make war with the rest of her offspring who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus. So that dragon, Satan, he’s persecuting, he’s trying to get people to leave the faith. How does he do it? One of the ways is throwing them into prison. And if you read it going on to Revelation 13, satan establishes a wicked kingdom claiming to be God’s church that then persecutes the saints. And in verse ten of chapter 13, it says, he who leads into captivity shall go into captivity.

And it’s talking about that power that was locking up Christians, ends up himself getting locked up. But can demons move around and follow a person? Luke 1124 says, when a clean spirit goes out of a man. He goes through dry places seeking rest, finding none. It says, I will return to my house from which I came. And he comes, he finds it swept and put in order. Then he goes take with him seven other spirits who are more wicked than himself and they enter and dwell there. The last state of the man is worse than the first. So yeah, demon can leave and then come back and depend on circumstances. You can end up with even more demons than the next time. Very common where as we fall spiritually, I mean, if you recover and you sort of have a conversion moment but then fall a second time, you can end up falling even harder and faster in your first fall. So you don’t ever want to slip. Can demons torture us? Answer is in some senses, yes. You see. Luke Nine and actually this story was found I think in all three of the Synoptic gospels.

Talk to the story of this father who brought his son and the son is being tortured by his spirit. Luke nine, verse 39. The father says, behold, his spirit seizes him and the sun suddenly cries out, it convulses him. So they foams at the mouth and it departs from him with great difficulty, bruising him. And this demon couldn’t be cast out by the disciples. Matthew 1715 giving more perspective on this story, the father says, Lord have mercy my son, for he is epileptic and suffers severely where he often falls into fire and often into water. So the spirit is trying to cause this child to be burned and also causing him to try to drown this child. Horrible. But there is also another type of prison that I think is most common, that Satan traps us in, and that is traps us in his lies, his web of lies. Jesus warned in John 844 that Satan does not stand in the truth because there’s no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources where he’s a liar. And the father of it basically Jesus saying like the Satan’s native tongue is speaking lies.

Speaker 2

So God is warning us don’t fall in second. Thessalonians two starting at verse nine talks about the coming of the lawless. One, according to the working of Satan, with all power signs and lying wonders and with all unrighteous deception among those who perished because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion that they will believe the lie. God doesn’t want people to believe the lie, but people don’t have the love of the truth and want to believe whatever they want to. God will let them just plunge deeper into delusion. And this is going to be a very common thing, especially for the end of time. So we talked about if you’re void of a spirit, you could be refilled with even more demons. It’s important to feel that void with none other than the Holy Spirit. Romans 815 Paul writes, for you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, Abba, Father, fill your void with the Holy Spirit. Philippians two five says, let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus.

Speaker 2

Romans 1314 says, but put on the Lord Jesus and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its less. And one Peter four one to three says, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin. Focus on Christ. Fill yourself with the Holy Spirit. You can’t fill yourself with Holy Spirit, but pray, ask for it, yearn for it, make room for it, or him. The Holy Spirit and the Spirit will not give space for Satan to fill you or tempt you. I want to close with this thought, matthew 1228 to 29 but if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come to you. Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods unless he first binds a strong man, and then he will plunder his house? This is Jesus speaking, and who’s that strong man he’s talking about? Satan. And Jesus says I can go into Satan’s domain. I can tie him up, and I can plunder Satan. Jesus can rescue anybody from the clutches of Satan.

Speaker 2

And Satan’s biggest lie is that we’re too far from God, and God doesn’t care about us, and God won’t come rescue us. That’s absolutely not true. And so it’s important to make sure we never, ever give up hope and just reach out to Christ, and he will grab us and bank us to save. Any other thoughts you’d like to share?

Speaker 3

No, I think that was very well done. I think it’s a really serious topic, and I think that we have to be really careful when we talk about these things. So I just pray that my friend out there who’s asking is that God finds deliverance for your friend, and as they abide in Christ, that they’ll stay close to God. And I do want to be one promise actually, that just came to my mind, and I’ll look it up. But basically it says, the wicked one touches him not. I want you to know that there is victory in Jesus Christ. And in one John 518, it talks about that we know that whosoever is born of God sins not, but he that has begotten of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches enough. So there is a promise that if we instang from sin, if we come to God and ask God to take all sin out of our lives, and we humbly obey God, that the devil will not be able to touch us. And so I’m not saying that your friend is a sinner or bad person. They probably maybe realize was there and the devil saw them growing in Christ and wanted to find a way to get to them, to harass them so they’ll leave their faith.

Speaker 3

And we have to be careful that we don’t give up on our faith, but we grow deeper in our walk with God, and God will protect us, and God will bless us. So I just pray that’s blessed upon you and your friends so that you have a testimony of victory over this trial in your life. Amen.
