There has been images circulating in the internet of 20-30 foot skeletons of giants discovered near archaeological sites. These images have been discredited as hoax.
It is true that there were giants in the land of Canaan (Numbers 13:33), but 20-30 feet skeletons is much larger than the biblical accounts of giants. Such proportions do not fit the biblical description of giants for the Bibles states that Goliath, the giant, was 6 cubits and a span, or 6 1/2 cubits. There are two general measurements for the Hebrew cubit. Using the shorter one, which is 17.5 inches would be equivalent to 9 1/2 ft. or 2.9 m. Deuteronomy 3:11 talks about another giant, King Og of Bashan. This verse gives the measurements of his bed, which was 9 cubits long and 4 cubits wide. Imagine how big King Og would have to be to fit in a bed just over 13 feet long and just under 6 feet wide!
Indeed there were giants in the Bible, they were almost twice as tall as the average American man. But the records do not really support people 20 feet tall, much less 30 feet tall. Some accept stories like the one above and circulate it without checking them with the inspired Word of God. But the Lord teaches His children saying, “test all things, hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). We need to check every story by what the Bible says to determine if it is true or false, whether it be how tall giants could get in ancient times or things more important such as spiritual truths.
