Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It’s true that Jacob had a famous son named Joseph in the Old Testament—he’s the one sold into slavery and later became a ruler in Egypt. But the Joseph who married Mary lived much later. According to Matthew 1:16, Joseph (Mary’s husband) was the son of a man named Jacob, but this Jacob is a different person from the patriarch Jacob of Genesis. The genealogies in Matthew and Luke trace Joseph’s lineage from King David, which fulfilled the Messianic prophecy about the Messiah coming from David’s line. While Joseph was not Jesus’ biological father, his legal lineage still mattered in Jewish custom. As for Mary, Luke 3 is often understood by scholars to trace her lineage, which also goes back to David. So both Joseph and Mary were from David’s line, which supports the fulfillment of prophecy from both a legal and biological standpoint.

Thank you for your thoughtful input. You’re right—Phoebe is referred to as a diakonos in Romans 16:1, the same term Paul uses for himself and others. The word probably from an obsolete diako which means to run on errands, cf διώκω (G1377) and is the same word Jesus used in Matthew 23:11 as servant: “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.” God asks us to minister and serve one another, which is how this term was mostly used in the Bible rather than a position of authority.

God gave us His word to address our questions. Concerning who wrote the Bible: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God…” 2 Timothy 3:16. On that logic, when you say edited, do you mean translations or are you trying to give doubt that man wrote it? If the latter, refer to the previous verse.

Concerning other books or if you had doubts about it being changed, the Bible says “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” Psalm 12:6-7. So we know God preserved them from the generation they were written and will be until forever.

The Bible says they came to earth (Job 1:7).

Indeed, doctrines such as Mary being co-mediator, the infallibility of the Pope, and the others you mentioned are not Bible doctrines. But there are Catholics who are unaware that these doctrines are not based on the Bible, and it is such that they could be following God to the best of their knowledge and therefore the Lord accepts their worship. Acts 17:30 says, “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent.” If such Catholics learn Bible truth and reject it, and do not repent of their ignorance, then the Lord will deal with them accordingly.
