Will our Pets Be in Heaven?
The Bible does not mention anything about our pets and animals going to heaven. Most people would like to see their special creatures in the New Earth. The Bible does not reveal where animals go when they die. But we know that God created animals for man’s help and pleasure and He declared that His creation of animals “was good” (Genesis 1:25).
Animals were created differently than humans. Humans were created in the image of God. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Genesis 1:26-27). Thus, they have the capacity to choose eternal life through the plan of salvation (Joshua 24:14-15), animals have no such choice.
Now, the Bible does indicate that there will be animals in heaven for the enjoyment of men. “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them” (Isaiah 11:6, also 65:25). Whether they will include the animals and pets we knew on earth is not known.
But we do know that God will wipe away all our tears (Revelation 21:4) and will restore all the happiness that we lost through sin. This could possibly include the happiness we lost at the loss our loved pets.
There is a wonderful verse in 1 Corinthians 2:9 which says: “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” God promises to satisfy the desires of His children in a way that far exceeds their dreams and expectations. So, we will have to wait and see what the Lord has in store for us, and we can trust that it will be more than amazing.
