If you don’t know what love means, read this story.
A 66-year-old retired lawyer in Florida jumped on top of a 7-foot alligator to rescue his “best friend,” a small terrier dog named “Bounce”.
The grandfather was in his backyard near Orlando, while the 9-year-old West Highland terrier wandered close to the shore of a nearby pond. An alligator attacked “Bounce” and carried it away in its mouth.
“For whatever reason, I don’t know, I just yelled, ‘you’re not going to get her!’ and just leaped on the gator…just like you do some silly belly flop in a pool,” said Gustafson the owner.
Gustafson landed on the alligator’s back. The 130-pound gator tried to pin Gustafson to the bottom of the 3-foot-deep pond before he was able to outmaneuver it, finally setting Bounce free.
Gustafson “tossed” the gator back into the pond and raced for the shore.
Now this is love… a human risks his life to save his pet.
You are so special because the Creator of the universe Himself risked His life to rescue you. The supreme expression of divine love is the Father’s gift of His own Son “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16), through whom it becomes possible for us to be “called the sons of God” (1 John 3:1). “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).
God’s love embraces all mankind, but directly benefits only those who respond to it (John 1:12).
